Antique Pink Chinese Calligrapher's Brush, Likely 19th Century (Unusual Find!)

This stunning antique Chinese calligraphers brush is a rare and unusual find. 

Part of the Four treasures of the Study, the brush is an integral part of Chinese scholastic culture, beloved by ancient Han Chinese scholars such as Confucius. Traditionally fine brushes would have been hung up on walls or on brush racks for visitors to admire, as a subtle indicator of one’s learning. 

This particular example is made from bone as well as possibly Chinese hardstone; the stone is cold to the touch and most likely dyed hardstone however it may be Chinese pink agate. The bristles are of good quality and possibly of horsehair. 

In very good condition with traces of wear commensurate with age, particularly where the colouration is slightly faded. Still excellent for display, we would not recommend using due to loose bristles due to age.
