Personally sourced during our recent trip to Korea, this is an excellent example of late Joseon baekja or white porcelain. This vase, likely between the late 18th to early 19th century, is a rare piece to behold.
Its restrained bottle-form silhouette speaks to the resurgence of neo-Confucianism among the literati in Joseon society. White ware was and remains a highly desirable in Korea, as indeed it was for most of the Joseon period. At one point in mind ownership was restricted to the scholarly and nobel classes only, with general production only relaxing from the 18th century onwards.
Its moon-form base makes it a beautiful and timeless piece.
This is an excellent opportunity to own a piece of antique Korean porcelain at a very friendly entry point.
Price marked at AUD$340.
Measurements: 22cm height x by 14cm dia. at widest point.
Condition: One hairline crack, stable to upper rim. Some chips and wear to base. Some wear overall as pictured. Priced with condition in mind.
