Large Antique Japanese Ivory Statue of Fisherman with Catch
Large Antique Japanese Ivory Statue of Fisherman with Catch
This Japanese ivory statue circa late Meiji period (early 20th century) is of a fisherman holding his catch. A particularly nice detail is that the rope holding the fish is still in its mouth; the intricate little twists of rope add a touch of realism to the piece. The face too is well carved, and the tendons in his feet certainly evoke the effort used and his exhilaration at the catch.
