Antique Chinese export silver matchbox with dragon motif, circa 1890 to 1900s, marks for W.A., Canton

A very elegant antique Chinese export silver matchbox with repousse work of dragon motif, circa 1890 to 1900s, with marks for W.A., a Canton maker active from 1845-1900. Despite a remarkable fineness and noted quality to his work, the silversmith’s full name remains undocumented.

The quality of this match box is very fine with afore mentioned repousse work as well as a pierced design; the hand-crafted nature of this piece would involve many painstaking hours of work as well as great skill. Perfect for a cigar aficionado.

Overall very good antique condition. Superficial dents to one corner.
