A beautiful antique Chinese export silver condiment or cocktail knife, circa mid to late 19th century, with marks for Hung Chong, an important retail silversmith in Shanghai active from 1830 to 1925.
Hung Chong was excellent at grasping High Victorian tastes as exemplified by this knife, with its finely planished details and a repousse dragon motif to both sides of the handle, as well as an etched dragon pattern to the front of the blade.
Tests as silver between .900 to .950 in purity.
Price marked at $300 AUD.
Measurements: 12cm length, 27.2grams.
Excellent antique condition overall with light wear commensurate with age.
