A fine Chinese export .900 silver, likely late Qing spoon. A lovely piece with well-executed details, with a figural handle with the main motif in the shape of a woman.

Marks for Wang Hing and .900 silver. Wang Hing is one of the great makers of Chinese export silver and was active in Canton and Hong Kong, 1854-1941. What is also interesting is the maker’s marks in Chinese for Gong He (公和). This silversmith produced excellent work and was retailed by firms such as Wang Hing and Wo Shing, which makes this particularly desirable.

An intriguing piece which bears resemblance to Western apostle spoons, but possibly inspired by Chinese culture such as the Eight Immortals, as we see the main figure is a woman holding what is possibly a fan as well as a laughing Buddha or Luo Han to the base. This has the perfect blend of East meets West characteristics so desirable in Chinese export silver, as well as a fantastic combination of maker’s marks.
