Antique 19th century Venetian Trade Bead Pendant with Sterling Silver Swivel Fob Setting, Slag Glass End of Day Style
Antique 19th century Venetian Trade Bead Pendant with Sterling Silver Swivel Fob Setting, Slag Glass End of Day Style
Today we are delighted to offer you something rare and intriguing from our new range of jewellery; Venetian trade beads circa the 1800s to 1900s with bespoke settings by our artisans in Java. We hand-selected the largest, most interesting beads to mount in swivel fob settings, showcasing every facet of these beads to best advantage while preserving their historical integrity.
From the 1500s onwards, Venice became the leading bead manufacturer in the world. During this time, their beads were exported as far away as Africa and Asia, where they were treasured as heirlooms, dowry goods and currency in their own right.
Likely Venetian but sourced in Java, this particular pendant is a beautiful chaotic swirl of colours, likely slag glass that was fused at the end of the day.
The setting is sterling silver and made to measure by our team of artisans, and is marked 925 on the bail.
Price marked at $380AUD.
Measurements: Approx. 1.7 cm bead dia. Pendant height of 2.7cm.
Excellent antique condition. Patina to glass commensurate with age, bead integrity very good.
