A beautiful 19th century pair of French opera glasses in original case, beautifully hand-enamelled with gilt details and mounted with opaline beads.
Circa 1860s to 70s, these opera glasses are absolutely stunning, with a rich midnight blue background and starry gilt details. The floral cartouches are beautifully hand painted, and the finishing touch is the lovely silver border details to the top and bottom of these glasses.
The eyepiece and thread details are ivory, and are in beautiful condition. The frame is a lovely gleaming brass and overall these are a joy to behold.
While unmarked, these are of exceptional quality and are comparable to the best makers of the time such as Lemaire. A rare piece of history and in excellent condition.
