This ukiyo-e woodblock print titled “Gan no Gyokusho” by Utagawa Kuniyoshi (1797-1858) is a fantastic, highly collectible piece.

Originally printed in the 6th year of the Kaei period, 1853, this is a 20th century reprint by Adachi on washi paper using a recarved block. A highly limited run of just 24 prints, this fan print depicts a fortune teller. Covering her head, she uses her kanzashi hairpin to point at her customer’s fortune paper. A very different yet classically beautiful ukiyo-e print, in a fine gilt frame.

This divination game is a variant of Tsuji-Ura; also known as the Fortune Game or Crossroads Game.

Price marked at $320 AUD.
Measurements (framed): 42 by 30 cm
Very good vintage condition overall; some staining to arm as pictured. Overall colours are vibrant and no major foxing etc.
