19th Century Victorian Tartan Ware Box, Prince Charlie Pattern
19th Century Victorian Tartan Ware Box, Prince Charlie Pattern
A late 19th century tartanware box, possibly initially for storing stamps. Perfect for small trinkets or keepsakes. Inlay is in good condition.
Overall a charming and collectible piece. A classic pattern in the Prince Charlie pattern, clearly named after Bonnie Prince Charlie- The Scottish Register of Tartans notes that “the reason for such a profusion of Prince Charles Edward tartans is said to be his habit of honouring his host at that time by wearing his tartan. In his travels he obviously stayed/hid with many hosts.”
Price marked at $250 AUD.
Measurements: 5.5 diameter, 2cm height.
Good antique condition with some wear as pictured commensurate with age.
