This piece of 19th century Russian silver dates from 1880, the penultimate year of Alexander II’s reign. Made by Samuel Filiander, whose work is relatively rare; the turbulent years leading to the Tsar’s assassination in 1881, as well as in post-imperial Russia, means that little records have survived on Filiander.

Russian silver is often sober in style with beautifully done details. This particularly piece would have been part of a dinner service, and is restrained elegance personified. Ideal to use for serving sauces or dips on any occasions.

Other notable marks would be the assay mark of ИЕ, most likely Ivan Yevstigneyev, and the town mark for Moscow 1880.

Price marked at $220 AUD.

Measurements: 65 grams, 22cm length.

Condition: Very good with light wear commensurate with age.
