A beautiful 19th century Indian ivory carving depicting the goddess Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth and beauty. Here she is depicted dancing with four arms, each meant to symbolise different aspects of Dharma. The carving is beautifully and dimensionally done, taking advantage of the ivory's natural form to depict her movements, the folds of her skirt as well as an intricately carved background.
Fixed to original wooden base.
