The morpho butterfly wing craze was immensely popular throughout the Art Deco period, which was first unveiled to the public in his exhibit at the British Exposition of 1924.
Morpho wing pieces from this era remains highly desirable, with pieces from the 1920s being the earliest British examples documented. This is a particularly desirable piece of art for several reasons; not only is this from the period and in its original frame, but it is also attributed to / in the style of Dorothy Buckley, one of the most famous butterfly wing artists from that era. Known for her reverse painting on morpho pieces for companies such as Shipton, her pieces remain highly desirable today.
This is an excellently executed example, full of Art Deco whimsey. The characters, possibly Pierrot and Columbine, are vibrantly depicted and their expressions finely painted.

Price marked at AUD$550.
