Regency period 9ct gold and white lava cameo brooch

Beautiful and rare Regency period 9ct gold and white lava cameo brooch depicting a woman in the neo-classical style. Unmarked but XRF tested as 9 carat gold. The carving is of exceptional quality and stands in high relief; this was likely a Grand Tour souvenir circa first quarter of the 19th century. Lava cameos such as this one were originally sold near Pompeii so that visitors could commemorate their visit to the Pompeian ruins, and were highly popular during the 19th century.
