A beautiful and rare Jun ware Jin dynasty (1115-1234 AD) small bubble bowl, with characteristic thick milky blue-tinged glaze of the period.
Jun glazes originated in the eponymous 10th-14th century kiln, and these glazed wares were highly prized by Chinese imperial families thereafter; later emperors such as Qianlong were known to collect these original Jun Yao pieces, as well as allocate funds to imperial kilns to recreate Jun glazed ware during the Qing dynasty.
This bowl is of beautiful shape, with “nail” bosses surrounding the rim, as well as a richly glazed interior and exterior; the drips of glaze to the raised foot and distinctive wheel mark to the unglazed base, are all characters of Song-Jin period ceramics. Small iron trails which follow gravity downwards can be observed, as well as flashes of red arising from the copper oxide in the glaze.
Jun ware of this age and rarity often fetch premium sums at auction. A remarkable piece.
