A rare and beautiful pair of William IV sterling silver grape scissors with marks for London, 1824, William Eley II. Son of William Eley I whose partnership with Chawner and Fearn remains enshrined in English silversmithing history, he was a notable silversmith in his own right.
With fresh fruit being a luxury in the Regency period, grape scissors were used as an indicator of wealth and status. These certainly live up this claim, being double-struck and of thick gauge these are amongst the finest examples we have come across.
Price marked at $1750 AUD.
Measurements: 17.1cm length. 101.2 grams silver weight.
Remnants of gilt, otherwise excellent antique condition with minor wear overall commensurate with age, with marks crisp and clear.
