An excellent matching pair of crested George III sterling silver serving spoons, with marks for London, 1775, Hester Bateman.
Well engraved with crest of an arm embowed, grasping a ring or annulet. Research remains ongoing to the family whose crest this belonged to.
Feather-edged detail to borders of the spoons, these are an excellent testament to Hester Bateman’s skill and this was one of her design signatures. Hester Bateman is arguably the most famous female British silversmith of all time, and was well respected in her time. She was active from the 1760s to 1790; upon her retirement, the Bateman family remained a notable silversmithing family for many generations.
Price marked at $1600 AUD the pair.
Measurements: 22.5cm length. 133.4 grams total weight.
