A lovely rare pair of early Irish crested sterling silver Hanoverian pattern tablespoons, with the Hibernian mark and assay marks for Dublin, 1762, Christopher Skinner, who was active from 1739 to 1766.
The crest which is engraved on the reverse of both handles depicts the Hand of Benediction which is of a dexter hand couped at the wrist with thumb and two forefingers pointing upwards, indicating faith, hope and trust in heaven. The crest was used by the Earl of Kilmarnock, a peerage that was held by the Boyd family of Scotland until 1746. The crest has been continually used by Clan Boyd until the present day.
The lightly planished surface of the bowls due to their hand-hammered nature speaks to the quality of early Irish silver, making this lovely pair of interest to any discerning collector.
