Statement early 20th century Japanese Satsuma Vase depicting several Immortals handpainted in the Satsuma tradition, with gilt and hand-painted details throughout. Moriage enamels in high relief. Circa late Meiji to early Taisho period.
Satsuma pottery is one of Japan’s most distinctive ceramic styles, and first achieved renown at the Exposition Universelle in Paris, 1867. Pottery from that period, as exemplified by these vases, is considered some of the finest produced by Japan and was a foundation of Japanese trade with the West during the Meiji Period.
The base bears a handpainted backstamp in kanji for Shinzan; little is known about this company or maker, but this piece is a beautiful example of Satsuma.

Very good vintage possibly antique condition. Light wear and crazing overall commensurate with age, minor rubbing to gilt in some areas.
