A beautiful late Meiji to Taisho period Japanese export silver cherry blossom figural basket with pierced design handle depicting birds and flowers.
With provenance from Harold Luther Everingham’s estate (1890-1953), who whilst working in Japan, survived the Great Kanto Earthquake of 1923, and was employed by the Australian and New Zealand silk merchants Makower, McBeath & Co in the 1920s.
Marked Jungin to the base, which indicates a standard of maximum silver purity, and in practical terms that was well above the sterling standard, ranging from .950 to .999 silver purity. Maker’s mark K.Y.
Price marked at $1850 AUD.
Measurements: 228 grams. 16.8cm total height, 16cm bowl diameter.
Excellent antique condition. Marks crisp and legible.
