An elegant and scarce Napier pattern butter spreader with marks for London, 1862, Chawner & Co.
The Napier pattern was first registered by Chawner & Co. on the 10th January, 1862 and appears in the Chawner pattern book. With its beaded details and ropetwist borders, this pattern is noted to be highly scarce.
Made by Chawner & Co. during the George Adams period, this butter spreader was made in the inaugural year the Napier pattern was introduced and bears the registration mark for this design.
Chawner & Co. were fine and prolific makers, supplying retailers such as Hunt & Roskell, R.& S. Garrard & Co & Elkington & Co.

Measurements: 65.7 grams, 19.5cm length.
Excellent antique condition with minor wear overall commensurate with age. Marks crisp and well-struck.
