19th century Viennese 13 loth Rothe & Neffe silver sugar tongs
Beautiful antique Viennese 13 loth silver sugar tongs, with hallmarks for Rothe & Neffe, circa 1849 to 1866. This 13 loth mark indicates .812 silver purity and was used from 1807 to 1866. These tongs are beautifully made and engraved, as expected of this maker.
Rothe & Neffe is an extremely notable jeweller in Europe, and was established in 1833. Rothe would take over the shop in 1849, moving its location to Kohlmarkt 7; the company remains at that location to this date. In 1855, the firm was appointed KK Hof Gold Worker by Emperor Franz Joseph I.
