Victorian Aesthetic Movement sterling silver swallow sweetheart brooch

Late 19th century Victorian Aesthetic Movement sterling silver sweetheart brooch. Such brooches, made circa the 1880s, were highly popular with romantic motifs inspired by the Aesthetic movement which was then en vogue. These were highly sentimental pieces, usually given to one’s sweetheart- these were particularly popular during times of conflict such as the Boer War.
Central motif of a swallow, a popular romantic motif at the time with a Japonesque background as well as a beaded Etruscan Revival rim.
With original C clasp and base metal pin, this is a beautiful example of Victorian silver jewellery and is highly collectible.

Measurements: 4.5cm by 2.2cm.
Missing glass to back, otherwise excellent antique condition. Unmarked but tests as sterling silver which is common to these particular pieces of this period.
