Rare French Art Deco Pierre d'Avesn opalescent glass ashtray

Beautiful and rare French Art Deco d'Avesn opalescent glass ashtray in pattern #167, circa 1930s to 1940s. Pierre d'Avesn was one of the most important French glass artists of the 20th century. Born in 1901, he worked at Lalique for 10 years, designing some of Lalique’s most iconic pieces such as the Serpent vase and the “Tourbillons” vase. In 1926, he would set up his own glass studio, then later in 1930 becoming artistic director of Daum Freres’ Croismare glassworks’ molded glass department. He would later manage Verlys from 1937 to 1940, and after WWII he would again work on his own, with his pieces being made by Cristallerie de Choisy-le-Roi (Sèvres).

This piece is beautifully made with a geometric faceted cut to the exterior, creating a lovely starburst effect.
