A rare and beautiful pair of enamelled 14ct gold cufflinks with the royal monogram and personal cipher of Tsar Boris III of Bulgaria. Made in 14 carat gold with the Bulgarian national colours of red, green and white beautifully depicted in enamel.
A very rare piece, the Bulgarian tsar favoured cufflinks as a gift to prominent personalities as well as close friends and family. An example would be a diamond-studded pair that was given to Duke Albrecht of Wurttemberg in 1935. We have only seen one other example of the one we have listed, which sold in 2021 with an estimate of up to 3000 euros.
The Bulgarian royal jewellery collection was among the best in Europe, and pieces have been worn by figures such as Prince Charles, who has worn a tiepin with Tsar Boris’ cipher on several occasions at Royal Ascot.
A highly collectible piece, this represents a rare opportunity for a collector to own a piece from one of Central Europe’s most prominent dynasties, the House of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha-Koháry.
