A lovely framed mid to late Victorian pot lid that will appeal to Prattware enthusiasts, carefully mounted in an original timber frame of the period. Titled “Strathfield Saye”, this depicts the stately home and seat of the Duke of Wellington. Circa 1860s to 1880s, this is often referred by collectors as pattern number #188 (A. Ball).
The lettering and graphics applied to these paste pots provide lovely examples of Victorian utilitarianism and insight into 19th century daily life, as well as people’s needs and aspirations at the time. These showcase both the beauty and function inherent in many such wares during Victorian times..
