A charming antique George V Compton ware vase with sterling silver rim, marked for London, 1916 (maker’s mark rubbed). Features a dreamy cornflower blue glaze and floral motifs.
Established by Mary Watts, wife of the famous painter George Watts in 1899, the company was active from 1899 to 1956. Their famous friends lent their support, with Alfred Gilbert and Archibald Knox contributing designs. Wares were sold through Liberty, their Arts and Crafts designs proving popular amongst artistic and upper-class circles.
