This stunning antique Doulton Lambeth jug is from the ‘Silicon Ware’ range, made in a riveted copper finish with sterling silver rim with marks for London, 1893, Brockwell & Son. Sometimes referred to as Doulton Lambeth copper ware, pieces from this range display Doulton’s skill and groundbreaking techniques at their very best.
Made from Silicon Ware, a hard, high-fired stoneware, the Copper Ware pieces were produced between 1887 to 1914. These stunning pieces were entirely made from stoneware, using varying metallic lustres to create a weathered copper “patina” effect as well as meticulously hand-crafted seams, rivets, dents and joints to create a hyper-realistic trompe l’oeil effect.
This particular piece is pattern #8776 and is crafted in the style of an Arts & Crafts metalware jug, with its angular handles and hand-placed “rivets” exemplifying the distinctive British Modern Style. A highly desirable, collectable piece.
