A charming vintage Royal Doulton Sam Weller toby jug circa 1948-1955 in a small size, designed by Leslie Harradine and Henry Fenton and issued between 1948 to 1960. Sam Weller was a popular character in Charles Dickens’ The Pickwick Papers, and this is from the Charles Dickens’ Characters series. With an A mark to the base denoting a Georgian clay body which was used from 1939 to 1955. A fine toby jug full of character and expressiveness.
