Vintage Rolls Royce Spirit of Ecstasy 'Emily" mascot, circa 1960s, Classic Car Part, Silver Cloud III Model
Today we have an exquisite vintage car mascot that needs little to no introduction; a vintage Rolls Royce Spirit of Ecstasy mascot, affectionately known by aficionados as “Emily”.
We believe this to be a mascot likely belonging to a 1963 Silver Cloud III model; during this time there was some variation in base shape, wing inclination and stamp. Originally designed by the artist Charles Sykes, the Spirit of Ecstasy was designed by him for the second Lord Montagu of Beaulieu. Inspired by Eleanor Thornton, Montagu’s longterm lover, Emily was first known as The Whisper before becoming the iconic version we know today.
After World War II, Rolls Royce began producing their own Spirit of Ecstasy mascots, taking over from the Sykes factory. Despite some changes in the mascot over the years, Emily’s iconic silhouette, feminine grace and uplifted wings remain as timelessly appealing as ever.
A rare, highly collectible part which will appeal to classic car aficionados looking for a crown jewel in their collection. This would be perfect for someone missing the final piece to their classic Rolls. Alternatively, this Emily mascot could be simply mounted as a desk ornament on a timber or marble plinth for the lady or gentleman who has it all.
