This vintage possibly antique Hen on Nest butter dish is in the rare white opaline glass colour way; moreover, it was made by the prestigious French company Portieux Vallerysthal. A very rare and desirable piece.
In the 1880s, Vallerysthal bought the smaller French company Portieux so that they were able to continue production within France. Variations of these hens on nests were designed between 1880 to 1920; for reference we have included a picture of a Portieux catalogue with similar styles with paint accents dating to 1908.
While PV still exists, from the 70s onwards they no longer produced opaque pieces due to the intense time cost and labour involved.
This would make a fantastic trinket or candy dish, and would suit so many different styles ranging from French Provincial to Art Deco and more.

Approx. 11.5cm length, 10 across at widest point. 11.5cm height. Excellent vintage condition. Unused with the original Opale Veritable sticker inside.
