Vintage “Richard Carvel” hardcover book by Winston Churchill, 1935 edition with fantastic Art Deco illustrated dust jacket. A rare version published by Macmillan under their Cottage Library Titles.
First published in 1899 by Winston Churchill, a highly successful American author. Amusingly, a Briton with the same name was less well known at the time. Writing to Churchill to discuss this problem, the two men agreed that the Britishman’s nom de plume should be Winston Spencer Churchill or Winston S. Churchill, to avoid any confusion. The latter would go on to become one of Britain’s greatest prime ministers. Nowadays, the confusion would probably “flow the other way”, so to speak.

Fair vintage, near antique condition with wear to dust jacket, pages and corners as pictured.
