Vintage 20th century Cantonese rose medallion serving dish
Vintage 20th century Cantonese rose medallion serving dish
Vivid colours, lovely gilt accents and densely packed patterns- this is an excellent example of a Cantonese rose medallion serving dish.
Known in Chinese as 粉彩, these translucent enamels are rendered in pastel shades and were carefully applied by hand. Made in Canton for the export market, they were produced in varying stages of fineness between the 18th and 20th centuries.
This piece is decorated with botanical motifs in a traditional pattern of floral and fauna. Crisply painted, the enamels are still applied by hand and have the signature luminous look of top quality mid to late 20th century fencai pieces. This was likely made approximately between the 1970s to 1980s.
