Beautiful Victorian sterling silver sugar sifter spoon with marks for London, 1867, Francis Higgins II. Crested with a Demi-lion rampant, holding in its paw proper an arrow; this crest is associated in slightly varying patterns with branches of the Wyatt family, but the main motifs remain consistent of a demi-lion holding an arrow.

The work by this esteemed and sought after silversmith speaks for itself, with High Victorian style, thick gauge, gilt-washed bowl interior and beautifully crafted details such as the intricate pierced design. Higgins II was active from 1817 to 1879, and produced very fine flatware for which they rose to great prominence in the silver trade, with their work featured in the Victoria & Albert Museum in London.

The Wyatt family were a prominent family in the 18th and 19th centuries, with several architects as well as the inventor John Wyatt.
