This lovely 1920s Royal Doulton Flambé glaze Sung ware vase is a truly unique piece. Here depicting lovely cottage scenes, each Flambé glaze piece is by nature of the glaze one of a kind.
The art of flambé glaze or “sang de bouef” in the West was directly inspired by Ming dynastic pottery practices. Precise temperatures were required in order for the oxides to flash red; this skill only emerged in the West centuries later, with pioneers such as Charles Noke finally achieving this technique.
Flambé ware was launched in 1904; the Sung range which demonstrated the pinnacle of Royal Doulton’s flambé glaze techniques launched in 1920.

This particular piece showcases a true oxblood red, an excellent example of Sung ware.

Price marked at AUD$660.

Approx 18.5cm high.

It is in near perfect antique condition with slight wear to the base and marks commensurate with age.
