Maison Cardeilhac was founded by Antoine-Vital Cardeilhac in 1804 in Paris, and specialized in silver cutlery and table ware. His grandson Ernest took the firm to new heights- he first won a silver medal at the 1889 Exposition Universelle, and later became the president of the jury for the cutlery section at the Exposition Universelle Internationale of 1900. Examples of Cardeilhac are in several museums, including the Musee D'Orsay.
In 1951, the company was acquired by Christofle, who continued producing using Cardeilhac patterns well into the 20th century.
This particular set bears marks for both Cardeilhac and Orfevre Christofle, with the latter mark being used in the 20th century up to 1983. This pattern has been discontinued, and pieces with both Cardeilhac and Christofle marks are extremely rare. Currently, the only pattern listed on Christofle’s website in sterling silver is the Albi line, which retails at 350€ per piece. Our current pricing is over 60% off modern RRP.
