Art Nouveau Hallmarked Sterling Silver Trumpet Vases
Art Nouveau Hallmarked Sterling Silver Trumpet Vases
This beautiful pair of art nouveau sterling silver trumpet vases are hallmarked London 1902, with the maker’s stamp William Comyns. This is an incredibly special and collectible piece; Comyns' refined work had a premier reputation for its intricate designs and excellent quality, and was sold by the world’s best silver companies such as Tiffany & Co.
Retailed here in Australia by the Hardy Brothers, the only Australian jewellery business to hold a Royal Warrant, these would have adorned homes belonging to the very highest ranks of Sydney society. Decorated with ornate irises in relief decoration, the vases’ height is approximately 17 cm and weigh approximately 480 grams including the weighted base.
Artists such as Alphonse Mucha frequently depicted irises during the Art Nouveau period- during the earlier Victorian era, the flower’s three upright petals often symbolised three virtues such as faith, valor, and wisdom.
In excellent antique condition.
