According to Gary Yoshino, who wrote, "Japanese Cloisonné Enamels," "Totai Shippo" is the broad descriptive term for cloisonné on ceramics, earthenwares, and porcelain.
This particular Japanese cloisonné gourd bottle form vase is made from a base of Satsuma porcelain, with small kidney shaped cloisons decorated on the body with stylised buds, three petalled flowers and butterfly motifs set against a blue ground. Alternating diamonds encircle the shoulder and mouth.
Price marked at $500AUD.
Measurements: Approx 7cm at widest pt, 12cm height
This lovely piece is likely Meiji period (circa 1870s to 1890s).
Very good overall condition, one small chip to inner rim of vase.
