A fine presentation copy of Ship Ahoy! Nautical Notes for Ocean Travellers, hardcover, signed with inscription dated 14th September, 1935 onboard the RMS Ascania by Commander J.G.P. Bisset.
Captain James Gordon Partridge Bisset was a British merchant sea captain. His most famous voyage was during his youth when he served as second officer aboard the Carpathia, which led rescue operations for the ill-fated Titanic.
His fifty year career with the Cunard White Star Line saw Commander Bisset become the most decorated of Cunard Commodores. During World War Two, Bisset commanded the Franconia as well as several other ships, helping to over 400,000 troops to various theatres of war. He would later retire to Manley, Sydney, where his naval lectures were very well-received.
