This is one of the best pieces we have ever seen in person. A truly stunning and rare, museum-quality Tiffany & Co antique sterling silver sugar bowl & creamer jug set from the Edward Chandler Moore Period. Circa 1877 to 1880, this piece is representative of Tiffany’s Golden Age period, when Edward C. Moore “was the creative force behind the magnificent and inventive silver produced at Tiffany & Co. during the second half of the nineteenth century.”

Similar pieces can be found in the Victoria & Albert Museum, as well as the Metropolitan Museum- the latter of which held the exhibition “Collecting Inspiration: Edward C. Moore at Tiffany & Co” in 2024.

Showcasing the pioneering techniques that made Edward Moore’s name, here we see the inventive use of new alloys to accentuate the Japanese-inspired botanical motifs on the set, made in the Shakudo manner which was highly prized in the late 19th century.

Inspired by Japanese mixed metal techniques, Edward Moore used these as well as planishing methods popular in the Arts & Crafts period to create wholly new and stunning works of art. These rarely come up for sale and usually command a premium at auctions such as Sotheby’s and Christies.

This represents a rare opportunity for the discerning collector to add a new jewel to their collection..

Price marked at $8,800AUD for the set.

Creamer jug 6.7cm height, Sugar bowl 5.5cm height. Total weight of 251 grams.

Overall excellent antique condition. Light wear overall, wear to interior gilt as pictured. Light wear to alloys and marks but still overall crisp and legible.
