This antique Gouda Regina Art Deco twin-handled vase is a beautiful and rare example of the Darla pattern we have seen from the renowned Dutch Art Pottery factory. With its baluster form and rounded handles, this is a classic piece.

The Regina pottery factory was established in Queen Wilhelmina’s coronation name, and their factory produced some of the finest examples of Dutch Art Pottery to exacting standards.

This classic pattern and style balances Art Nouveau and Art Deco influences perfectly.  In a stylised floral pattern, this has been hand-painted with vibrant jewel tones, which contrasts beautifully with the onyx ground. Strongly influenced by Orientalism and the Jugendstil movement, Regina pieces during this time were under the creative direction of the renowned Gouke Bonsel.

The Darla pattern in particular is coveted by collectors for its vibrant tones and Oriental-inspired Art Deco look.

While the exact year of manufacture is unknown, Gouda scholars have dated pieces made in this dark floral pattern using matte glazes to the early 1920s, and no later than 1930s. In many ways whether in terms of size, rarity, and classic silhouette this is an ideal piece for any Gouda collector.
