A rare and lovely early Chinese 20th century “clam’s dream” carving in the anabori style, circa 1920s. This anabori or cavern-style carving is sculpted from a single piece of ivory, likely from the solid tip section of the tusk, and is ornamented with seashells. Inside is a bustling world full of activity, with a pavilion and monks, a mounted traveler, and figures mingling among delicately sculpted trees. Unsigned but clearly made by a master craftsman, the intricacy of this piece is a true testament to skill.
Comes with original stand.
Price marked at $2800 AUD.
Measurements: 11 length by 4.5 cm high for ivory carving. Total height including stand approx. 6cm.
Excellent antique condition overall. Some wear and minor losses to the outer bottom seashell and seagrass details.
