This stunning Arts and Crafts lamp is one of our favourite pieces in store, and for an excellent reason. In the early twentieth century, Arts and Crafts was an aesthetic movement that swept across Europe and America; in the latter it was known as Craftsman style and took on an entirely unique expression of creativity, technology and craftsmanship. From 1895 to the 1910s, the advent of electricity in homes meant entirely new forms of artisanal lighting were created. Above all, new methods of using metal and glass were used to stunning effect in creating new works of art with incandescent light. Both beautiful and functional, these early Arts and Crafts lamps are exceedingly rare to find. This is likely an American Craftsman style lamp, painstakingly brought to Australia many years ago from one new world to another. This one is particularly desirable with its brass frame and pink and green slag glass shades fully intact; when fully lit the colours remind one of a boulder opal. Truly a remarkable piece and one unlike any other Arts and Crafts lamp we have seen.
