Stunning 19th century Tibetan lochab belt ornament with large coral cabochon and repousse silver plaque depicting Kirtimukha. With its origins in Hindu mythology, the Kirtimukha is a popular motif in architecture and art, serving as a guardian “god of the threshold” and is often depicted in temples and religious iconography.
Lochab were used in Eastern Tibet, often in pairs, both as ornaments and as chatelaines. The beautiful scrollwork, auspicious Kurtimukha and the beautiful embroidery to the leather tab, make this a rare and stunning antique Tibetan piece.
Price marked at $2250 AUD.
Measurements: 18.1 cm total length.
Very good antique condition; silver plaque in excellent antique condition, wear to leather and embroidery as pictured.
