Beautiful pair of Georgian sterling silver “Green Man” spoons, marks for Thomas Tookey, London, 1777. Substantial and of thick gauge, engraved on both sides throughout the handle. Unmonogrammed; the cartouches are blank but there may have been a previous removal.

Beautifully engraved with a very well depicted Green Man face to the bowl of the spoon; the Green Man is a prominent motif in English art and folklore, having existed since Roman times, with possible connexions to Celtic mythology.

Thomas Tookey was born to a silversmithing family, with both his father James Tookey and his mother Elizabeth Tookey having been listed as silversmiths and spoon makers.

Price marked at $1250 AUD for the pair.

Measurements: Total weight of 144 grams. One at 76.5 grams, the other at 67.5 grams.

Excellent antique condition overall; however marks are rubbed, with the lion passant and date marks on both being particularly rubbed.
