Absolutely stunning late Qing period lamp of monumental stature. This would be late 19th century to early 20th century. We have two pieces that are clearly related to each other with similar style, created by the same maker but with different motifs- sisters rather than twins. Pictures do not do the fineness of these pieces justice.
They are both made in a beautiful Chinese celadon porcelain, with flowers and classic scholarly motifs in famille rose style enamels. This particular one depicts birds and butterflies with blooming flowers as its front and back central motif. It is highly likely that these were initially vases that were converted to lamps some time in the 1940s to 50s as suggested by the age of the lamp fixtures; the brass cover over these lamps suggest that no expense was spared in ensuring the quality of said conversions.
The gilt accents, fine depiction of motifs and meticulous enamelwork make these true collector’s pieces. Among the largest and best pieces of late Qing celadon we have come across.
Highly desirable pieces, these are sure to command any room in which they are placed.
Price marked at AUD$1000 each.
Base measurements: 26cm dia, 36 cm height.
Condition: Light wear overall commensurate with age. Very good antique condition.
