Mid to Late 19th century Meiji period Imari plate
Mid to Late 19th century Meiji period Imari plate
This mid to late 19th century Imari plate is beautifully rendered in a sunset palette of cobalt blue, mandarin orange and a traditional red glaze signature of Imari-ware.
The motifs on this plate are reminiscent of the era in which it was created; traditional depictions of mandarin oranges, bamboo leaves, calligraphic and geometric patterns reminiscent of plaid but also the traditional woven patterns of Japanese clothing. That mingling of East meets West typical of the Meiji period can be seen harmoniously depicted on this plate.
Some wear commensurate with age, particularly on base as pictured. Overall in excellent antique condition.
