Mid to Late 19th century Chinese Amethyst Snuff Bottle
Mid to Late 19th century Chinese Amethyst Snuff Bottle
Beautifully carved late 19th century amethyst snuff bottle with associated jade stopper. Beautiful solid piece of amethyst and of course the auspicious motif of a leaping carp makes this an excellent piece to enjoy. As a side note, amethyst was considered incredibly precious and desirable before larger deposits were found during the turn of the century in Brazil. This would have been an extremely high status symbol, one that would have been difficult to obtain.
Price marked at AUD$1440.
7.5 cm height, 4cm wide. 71.7 grams.
Good antique condition overall, light wear to base and broken spoon. Still excellent for display.
