A small but exquisitely lovely piece. A sterling silver case with beautifully worked hinged lid and sides. Within a green glass perfume bottle, snugly fitted.
Hallmarked London 1896, and with marks for one of our favourite makers William Comyns & Sons. Comyns was an outstanding maker and was retailed by premier brands such as Hardy Bros here in Sydney or Tiffany’s in New York. A signature Comyns design is ornate figural repousse work and here it is beautifully ornamented on both sides, with monogram to the lid opening.
Price marked AUD$800. Excellent antique condition. No fleabites or chips, even to the stopper, and the silver is in excellent condition too. So unusual in these scent bottles that were carried and used. Two cloudy spots to the stopper but do not detract from use or display. Silver weight 41.6g. Measurements: 7.5cm height, approx 5.5cm wide.
