This fantastic Late Qing Sancai earthenware bowl featuring twin dragons chasing a pearl is likely circa the Guangxu Period (1875-1908).
While we see many of these described as Kanji period, the particular hues and looseness of glaze on this design lead us to believe that this is rather from the Guangxu period.
We have seen auction estimates even for Guangxu period pieces between 3000 to 5000 euros, as collectors’ demand for relatively contemporary pieces skyrockets.
Sancai is one of the most prized patterns, having existed since the Tang Dynasty (circa 700A.D.). It was initially reserved for only those of the highest ranks in society, with imperial yellow being reserved only for those of royal blood. Sancai pieces such as Tang Dynasty horse figurines were found in royal tombs. In the 19th century it enjoyed a resurgence in popularity, with many archaic styles finding favour among Qing emperors.
This is an exceptional piece which is both beautiful and practical, and could be used as a vase among other things.

Measurements:
Condition: Very good antique condition with wear overall commensurate with age. Some colour run to glaze, firing imperfections and roughness to base which should all be considered as commensurate with ceramics manufacture at the time.
